Meow the fat cat dies due to obesity

The orange and white tabby named Meow, who was between 2 and 5 years old, was taken to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society last month after his 87-year-old owner could no longer take care of him.

Meow underwent a battery of tests, including X-rays and a cardiac ultrasound, and was put on oxygen.

“It was a shock and a horror for all of us,” Ms Martin said. “We all fell in love with him.”

She stated people across the country contacted the shelter after Meow’s story made national news, with many telling her he inspired them to put their pets and themselves on a diet. read more…

The mix-up started when Mr Wilson rang the town’s museum to state he was researching Capt Gingles’s war heroics and asked if he could be shown around.

Hartlepool United fans invade London dressed as smurfs

TalkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham tweeted a selection of photos suggesting that the smurf invasion was the most exciting piece of football news.

Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper said: “The fans were fantastic. I got a message on my phone saying, ‘The Smurfs are invading Charlton’, and that was from someone in Scotland.

“Then I saw the pictures. The support on the day was brilliant.”

At half-time, mid-table Hartlepool were leading 1-0 against League One champions Charlton but by the final whistle they were 3-2 down. read more…

Graeme Obree aiming to hit 100mph on bike made from old saucepan

The unique bicycle has been handcrafted by Obree – whose previous speed achievements earned him the nickname The Flying Scotsman – and may be capable of up to 100mph.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, the 46-year-old stated the pan was integral to the bike’s design.

‘I used an old pot that I had burned so I will not miss it – it was best for what I needed,’ Obree explained.

‘I wanted a light, flat surface for my shoulder supports and it was just sitting under my sink.’

Obree has been crafting the bike, which he has dubbed Pie In The Sky, since February, but is keeping the exact specifications of the machine under wraps so far. read more…

Truck split in half by train

Amateur video of a train crashing through a truck trailer in North Carolina has been posted online.

The accident happened on Friday in the city of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

It is the fourth such collision involving the city’s downtown crossings since 2011.

Trucks are prohibited from crossing the railroad tracks due to the danger of catching the bottom of their vehicles on the crossing, which is what seems to have happened on friday.

In the video the driver of the truck tries frantically to get his car off the track as the passenger train approaches. read more…
