After man almost blows up bathroom chasing spider: More bizarre accidents
It’s a funny old world, and not least because of the plethora of bizarre accidents that crop up day in, day out, such as the man who almost blew up his bathroom while chasing a spider. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some more that register high scores on the weird-o-meter.
Plum role
An 81-year-old man fell out of a plum tree in Biasca, Switzerland, a few years ago and spent four days in a coma. Not nice. However, when Angelo De Luca regained consciousness, his sex drive improved dramatically. According to reports, he even spent £3,000 of his savings in a local brothel.
Load of baubles
When model Kate Moss appeared with cuts down her cheek and partner Jamie Hince was seen sporting a black eye, the pair blamed some rogue Christmas decorations.
The injuries were spotted when the pair turned on Christmas lights at Stella McCartney’s Mayfair store in 2008. A fellow guest relayed to the London Lite how the injuries occurred: ‘Jamie and Kate could not stop chuckling when people gingerly asked about their injuries. He stated he was on a ladder and she was waiting at the bottom for him to pass down the boxes of decorations.
‘But he lost his grip on one and heavy decorations landed on their heads.’ A load of baubles? We’ll never know.
Getting legless
An American road worker went out on a limb and plucked up the courage to go skydiving. Then he got legless. Well, in that his fake leg fell off mid-descent.
‘How many people do you know who lost the same leg twice?’ asked Scott Listemann, ‘It’s a $12,000 leg,’ he added. ‘I’m hoping someone finds it.’
The unlucky 47-year-old lost his leg when a rubbish truck ran over it.
Up, up and away
Bouncy castles are, on the whole, great fun for kids. But not when a sudden gust carries the whole thing away. We’re guessing that when a five-year-old girl and her 22-month-old sister in Tucson, Arizona, found the inflatable castle they were bouncing on airborne they realised that this wasn’t part of the day’s fun schedule. Luckily, neither was seriously injured.
Bringing home the bacon
In 2008 New Zealand jockey Michael Walker’s life was rocky to state the least – until he almost got crushed to death by a dead pig.
The 23-year-old admitted to being on the booze since he was 11 and snorting cocaine. He was close to ending his career. But then he went pig hunting, fell down a 10m cliff with a dead pig on his shoulder, got squashed by the pig, suffered brain trauma – and eventually emerged a better man for it.
He stated afterwards: ‘My priorities have changed, which I guess can happen when you almost get killed. I was always very selfish, always thinking of myself. Now it’s all about my kids, about being responsible, being a model father.’
