After the Lasagne sandwich: Five of the weirdest sarnies
The perfect sandwich
We thought we had begin this list off with the perfect sandwich – simply wheel out this handy formula next time you are feeling peckish and you will be in bread-based heaven.
W = [1 + (bd) - s + (m-2c) + (v+p)] 100 + l.
Put a tiny more simply, it’s 18mm-thick bread, a 6.6mm-thick slice of cheese, 4mm of tomato, 3mm of pickle, 2mm of mayonnaise and a thin layer of butter. We still think it needs some ham though.
The £85 sandwich
Probably not something you will want to scoff down during your lunch break – this £85 premium sarnie comes from Selfridges. Featuring Wagyu, the ‘foie gras of beef’, that is flown every day at 5.30am from Chile and sourdough bread it’s definitely one for sandwich connoisseurs.
KFC Double down
KFC decided that sandwiches featured that tiny bit too much bread, so set about creating the Double Down – featuring two slices of fried chicken wrapped around bacon and cheese it’s probably the biggest move in the sandwich industry since, well, sliced bread.
Record-breaking ostrich sandwich (Well, nearly)
A group of sandwich aficionados in Iran attempted to create a truly monumental sandwich – a 1,500 metre-long behemoth stuffed with 750kg of ostrich meat and 750kg of chicken. Unfortunately, their dreams of being record-breaking sandwich makers were dashed when a crowd descended on the sandwich and tore it to shreds ‘within minutes’.
The Rubix Cubewich
There are few words that can describe quite how awesome this sandwich, discovered by insanewiches.com, really is. Featuring pastrami, kielbasa, pork fat, salami, and two types of cheddar it’s every bit as astonishing as it sounds.
