Camera rescue
A German man owes his life to a woman who rescued him from 350 miles away.
The man – who got lost off the coast of St. Peter Ording near the Danish border after trying to watch a beautiful sunset – was rescued thanks to a woman who spotted his camera flashing from 350 miles away.
The female nature walker had been sitting in front of her computer in southern Germany after monitoring the same sunset, when she saw flashes and alerted local police.
They sent through an emergency call which resulted in a patrol rescuing the man as temperatures plunged to minus 20 degrees.
Police spokeswoman Kristin Stielow said: “He was walking on the ice, got disoriented and would probably have fallen through the ice. He was very lucky this lady was sharing the same natural phenomenon but from the warmth and safety of her own home.”
