Freak Out – Blobfish v Smoking Snake

We all love a good weird picture – but which is the strangest of the strange? Each week, we will put two of our favourite bizarre images to a public vote in a tournament to find the weirdest picture in the world. Two photos enter – only one will leave…Reigning Champion – Blobfish

The King is dead; long live the King. After an epic five-week reign as the champion of weird pictures, the Green Snow Bloke has finally left the building. But he retires undefeated – last week’s contest produced a nail-biting draw between the chilly man in the bright green bodystocking and the Blobfish, the saddest tiny creature in the ocean. Had Snow Bloke won outright, he would have entered the Hall Of Fame and we had have had two new contestants this week. But the draw means that everybody wins: Blobfish goes on on for a second week as Champion, while Snow Bloke still gets to enter the Hall Of Fame.

Which means we have to build a Hall Of Fame. Damn. We asked our graphics department to come up with a nice-looking Hall Of Fame, but unfortunately he was on his lunch break. So instead we have this:

Challenger – Smoking Snake

Going up against Blobfish this week is Po, the smoking snake of Taipei. Poor Po (a colubrid, not a viper, as we were kindly informed by our herpetologist community) apparently managed to get hooked on nicotine thanks to his owner’s twenty-a-day habit – with the result that his owner, Sho Lau, noticed he calmed down a lot when given a morning and nightly smoke. Now, we realise that you might be saying at this juncture: ‘Hang on, someone’s just stuck a cigarette in the snake’s mouth to pose for a funny picture and the snake cannot do anything about it because it hasn’t got hands.’ To which we say: yeah, quite possibly. We can only work with what we have got.

Which is the weirder of the two pictures? You get to decide which one will go forward into next week’s round to face a new challenger – until we find a reigning champion of weird pictures. Simply vote by leaving a comment below – either write ‘Blobfish’ if you want to vote for the miserable fish, or ‘Smoking Snake’ if you want to vote for the nicotine-addicted snake.
