North Korean students given “a-ha” CD Do their own version of Take on Me on accordion Already received over half a million hits on YouTube
THESE children had never heard smash hit Take on Me before they were given an &034;a-ha&034; CD. Two days later, they were busting out their own version on their accordions.
It’s an unlikely story, but it is true.
What do you think of their rendition? Tell us in the comments section below.
In December last year, Norwegian artist Morten Traavik traveled to North Korea looking for musicians to play in an upcoming music festival.
He stumbled across the children from Pyongyang’s Kum Song School of Music and, according to reports, presented them with a CD of the Euro-pop group.
Two days later, a group of three boys and two girls surprised him with their own pitch-perfect version of the song.
Traavik has spent many years building a relationship with North Korean culture officials, musicians and artists, and has attracted a lot of attention for his boundary-crossing exhibitions and performances.
While it is unclear whether the children ever made it to the music festival, one thing is for sure – they have become viral celebrities, garnering over 600,000 hits on YouTube after Traavik posted the video last week.
