Not-so-micro pig weighs in at 17st
When Janey Byrne brought Meeka, she was told by the breeder that the little creature would not grow larger than the size of a springer spaniel.
But three years later, she has been left with a 5ft-long pig that eats its way through £200 worth of food a month instead of the petite pets made popular by celebrity owners including Victoria Beckham, actor Rupert Grint and Charlotte Church.
According to a vet, Meeka is actually a Vietnamese pot belly pig.
“Every time friends visited they were taken aback by Meeka’s size and asked if I was sure she was a micro pig. At this point, I still believed she was — just one with a weight problem,” Mrs Byrne, 43, told the Sun.
The Leicester-based breeder who sold Meeka has refused to answer Mrs Byrne’s calls but the receptionist, from Laughteron in Lincolnshire, stated she was happy with her unexpected pet.
“At first, her size was a bit of a shock and my husband Dave thought she’d eat us out of house and home,” she said.
“But I always knew that he’d come round in the end because it’s impossible not to love her.
“When Dave gets back from work he adores snuggling up on the couch with Meeka and watching TV.
“At first I was disappointed she wasn’t a micro — but now I wouldn’t change her for the world.”
