Plane crashes into back garden of bungalow
One of the men had to be cut from the Piper PA-22 plane, which came down near Netley Marsh on the edge of the New Forest.
No one was in the house at the time.
Police stated the aircraft was flying from the Isle of Wight to another destination in Hampshire and it was not clear what caused the crash.
The men, who both have life threatening injuries, were taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.
A temporary road closure was put in place at Woodlands Road, near the crash scene, to grant the emergency services to gain access.
A total of 15 fire fighters were sent to the scene to help free the pilot and passenger.
Shirley Laing, 65, stated “My husband and I were sitting outside on the patio enjoying lunch in the sunshine and suddenly saw this plane very low in the sky.
“It was absolutely quiet, as if the engine had cut out, and it was approaching very rapidly.
“It skimmed the tops of the oak trees and started to wobble, the wings were dipping.
“We often see planes but this was incredibly low and clearly in trouble.
“It looked like the pilot was trying to maintain control and then skimmed the roof of my neighbour’s house.
“The plane managed to make it over the road and land in the back garden of a bungalow opposite.
“It was horrific – we could see the smoke pouring over the bungalow and the emergency services rushed to the scene very quickly.
Britain’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch had been informed.
Gary Cooper, Chief Inspector at Hants police, told a local paper: “It is quite a built-up area with lots of dwellings around.
“The pilot has done very well. The aircraft hit the top of the roof as it came down before going into the garden.
