Polish pig worker ‘tried to rip out victim’s heart’

He was also convicted of wounding another housemate with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

Judge John Milmo QC told him: “This was an unprovoked attack with a lethal weapon.”

During the trial, Miss Seymour told the jury: “As I was stood there on the phone Andrzej lunged at me.

“I felt something go into my left side. I noticed he had something in his hand, I wasn’t sure what it was. It looked like a pair of scissors in half because there was an orangey bit at the top.

“I felt a pain and something warm. The next thing I remember I was on the floor, my head against the wall.”

She added: “I felt a large pressure on my chest like a knee drop, and put my hands up because I couldn’t breathe.

“I felt something was ripping across my chest. It felt like somebody’s fingers were going across my chest. I got the impression – because he worked with pigs – that he thought I was one.

“It felt like he was trying to rip through to my heart. I just thought he was trying to rip my heart out.”

The court was told that she suffered a collapsed lung and was left with a stab wound in her chest, which measured about 3.5 inches long and almost two inches deep. The scissors, meanwhile, missed her heart by less than an inch.

Michael Cranmer-Brown, prosecuting, stated that when officers entered the room Chranowski calmly asked for a cigarette and confessed “I’ve just killed a woman with this” while still holding the scissors.

He added: “Miss Seymour was lying on her bed in a pool of blood. You could see the blood pumping inside her chest.”

Chranowski, who listened to the case through an interpretor, claimed someone else carried out the attack.
